A CENTURY OF MEMORIES

ESTABLISHING ROOTS
EAST POINT HILL ACQUISITION, LEE GARDEN AMUSEMENT PARK & THE LEE THEATRE

Mr. Lee Hysan acquired his first plot of land in East Point, home to the Lee Garden Amusement Park and a gathering place for the Bei Shan Poets Society, a salon for poets and scholars. Later, the now Grade III historic structure, the Masonry Wall on Caroline Hill Road was constructed, preserving a piece of the area’s rich history.

To further enrich the cultural landscape, European architect Michael Xavier was commissioned to design the Lee Theatre, a venue built to host Chinese operas, Western movies, and world-class cultural events.

THE LEE GARDENS HOTEL

The Lee Gardens Hotel opened in 1971, offering 900 rooms, four outstanding restaurants, and the beloved Yum Sing Bar. It quickly became one of the three main hotels in Causeway Bay, welcoming tourists, businessmen, and celebrities alike. The opening of the first Cross Harbour Tunnel in 1972 further enhanced accessibility, making it easier for visitors to travel between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island, and positioning the hotel as a prime destination for those exploring both sides of the harbour.
